Note Taking
ReplyDelete"...so many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a live of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future..."

Note making
People in civilization are scared to follow their instincts and be who they really are because they are used to one way of life.
This is my favorite journal entry because it acknowledges the fact that most people confine themselves to be more sophisticated, shall I say, in the public eye because they are afraid of people judging them and being outcast in society like in "The Scarlet Letter." Chris McCandless defeated bypassed this obstacle by going into the wild and being who he wanted to be.

ReplyDelete~ Chris McCandless
People in society are too afraid to leave the lives they have known forever to try something new. They don't want to change what they have, and it is damaging to them because they are restricing themselves.
This is my favorite because I find this to be very true. There are many people that don't want to try new things because they are too afraid to.
"It was pretty obvious he didn't get along with his family, but he never said much about nay of them except Carine, his little sister. He said they were pretty close. Said she was beautiful, that when she walked down the street, guys would turn their heads and stare."
ReplyDelete-Gail Borah
As much as he disliked his parents, he had always been close with Carine. He felt they had grown up almost as fellow victims of this society and that brought them closer.
This was one of my favorites because I like they way he expresses his feelings about his sister. They way he's obviously proud of her and would be very protective of her at any moment. I like that about him.
"Some people feel like they don’t deserve love. They walk away quietly into empty spaces, trying to close the gaps of the past."
ReplyDelete-Christopher McCandless
I think Chris McCandless ran away from home because he thought that his parents didn't love him as much as they loved money or anything else. Chris only asked his parents to make him feel that they really loved him but they always gave him material things. His parents probably thought that they could show how much they loved their son by giving him anything that he would like/want but it wasn't what Chris asked for.
I actually liked a couple of qoutations while I was reading the book, "Into the Wild" but this one really caught my attention. It states facts about life and I'm pretty sure, many people can relate to it.

"Hell, no," Alex scoffed. "How I feed myself is none of the governments business. Fuck their stupid rules."
ReplyDeleteI like this quote because he really expresses his feelings in a blunt manner and I am like that too. I also agree with Alex because I think the government gets too into people's business just for the fun of it. If they ask you a question and you plead the fifth they are going to find out some other way and its ridiculous. Also there are a lot of rules you have to follow like you can't see a R rated movie by yourself unless your 17, I think that dumb because if your parents don't care, why should they.
